Istanbul Technical University (ITU) continues to strengthen its global standing in scientific productivity and interdisciplinary research in line with its vision of being a “Responsible and Impact-Oriented Research University.”The 2024 results of the World’s Most Influential Scientists list, prepared through a collaboration between Stanford University and Elsevier and based on objective indicators of scientific impact, once again highlighted ITU’s strong position in the global research landscape. According to the results, ITU ranked first in Türkiye in terms of the number of academics represented in both the “Annual Impact” and “Career-Long Impact” categories.

In the 2024 “Annual Impact” evaluation, 64 ITU academics were included in the list, with 2 researchers ranked among the world’s top 10019 among the top 500, and 33 among the top 1,000 in their respective fields. In the “Career-Long Impact” category, ITU further increased its representation compared to the previous year, with 80 academics listed. Among these, 4 ranked in the top 10020 in the top 500, and 38 in the top 1,000 worldwide. In addition, ITU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal was recognized among the world’s leading scientists in terms of lifetime scientific impact.

As an important component of this overall achievement, the 2024 results of the Stanford–Elsevier list also featured four academics from the Eurasia Institute of Earth Sciences—Prof. Dr. Aral Okay, Prof. Dr. Celâl Şengör, Prof. Dr. Aykut Barka, and Prof. Dr. Tolga Görüm—who were included in the “Annual Impact” category, making a significant contribution to ITU’s global academic visibility.
