It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of one of the pillars of Geology in Turkiye, Prof. Dr. Aral Okay. 

Prof. Dr. Aral Okay was one of the most influential geologists of his time, a true friend to science, and a guide. His impact extended beyond the academic realm, touching the lives of those fortunate enough to collaborate with him. His passion for geology was captivating, inspiring the next generation of scientists at the Eurasia Institute of Earth Sciences. 

The funeral will take place tomorrow (November 13, 2023) at 14:30 at the Istanbul Technical University (İTÜ) Süleyman Demirel Kültür Merkezi. After the ceremony, the deceased will be transported from İTÜ Abdülhakim Sancak Mosque following the afternoon prayer.

The Eurasia Institute of Earth Sciences will miss him dearly.
