The first interdisciplinary archaeological research project of Istanbul Technical University is being conducted by the Eurasia Institute of Earth Sciences under the directorship of Bülent Arıkan. This research takes place at Hacımusalar Mound, 12 km to the twon of Elmalı in Antalya. The focus of this project is the long-term human-environment relationships across the Elmalı Plain. The Plain has been the locale of human habitation for the last 8000 years. In this project, ITU Elmalı Field Schools accepts undergraduate and graduate students from the departments of Geological Engineering, Geophysics Engineering, Geomatics, History of Architecture, Restoration and Conservation, Landscape Architecture, and Eurasia institute of Earth Sciences. Most students that participate also complete their practical training requirements. While participating in interdisciplinary archaeological research, students also socialize and learn together with their peers from the USA, Canada, the U.K., and Germany.
